Picture in the Paper

During the summer of 2014, LOW PROFILE staged a campaign to uncover the many different types of formal and informal groups in Bath – from those joined together through shared hobbies, professions, interests and needs. Over 70 suggestions came from the public, celebrating the passions of the people of Bath.

Twenty groups were selected and brought together for professional photo shoots at the Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution. Each photograph was subsequently published in the local newspaper, The Bath Chronicle, prior to being placed on permanent public display at The Edge, University of Bath.

Participants came to view the photographs, make a special group pledge, and be the first members of the public to tour the building at a bespoke VIP event.

As a commissioned participatory project, Picture in the Paper was designed to explore and celebrate group identity and temporary allegiances, alongside creating new connections between Bath residents and a new, soon-to-be-opened arts centre on the University campus.
