What do you do with the leftovers? was developed for DIY 6, as part of the Live Art Development Agency’s DIY workshop programme, an opportunity for artists working in Live Art to conceive and run professional development projects for other artists.

DIY 6 was a Live Art Development Agency initiative developed in collaboration with Artsadmin, New Work Network, The Basement, Colchester Arts Centre, Nuffield Theatre & LANWest, and PLATFORM.

What do you do with the leftovers?

What do you do with the leftovers? provided artists with the opportunity to take the time to examine, re-trace, take stock of, and realise the potential of the ‘stuff’ that is leftover from the artistic process of making. Participants were encouraged to think about the by-products of their practice – the tangents, the unrealised ideas and the leftovers. They were encouraged to question how to turn the things that have been forgotten about, shelved, or disregarded, into the starting point of new artistic projects, artworks, artefacts, and artists’ ephemera.

Across two weekends, LOW PROFILE led workshop participants through a series of practical exercises to develop simple, low-fi and low-tech transformations of their ‘leftovers’ – concentrating on the re-presentation of ‘leftovers’ as work in its own right.
